Abstract

Functional dyspepsia is a common gastrointestinal disorder with unclear pathophysiology. This study aimed to investigate gut microbiota alterations in patients with functional dyspepsia compared with healthy controls. Fecal samples from 120 participants were analyzed using 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Patients exhibited significantly reduced microbial diversity and altered relative abundance of key bacterial taxa, including a decrease in short-chain fatty acid–producing genera. These microbial changes were associated with symptom severity and gastric motility parameters. Multivariate analysis suggested that microbiota composition independently contributed to dyspeptic symptoms. The findings support a potential role of gut microbiota dysbiosis in functional dyspepsia and provide a rationale for microbiota-targeted therapeutic strategies.
